Tutoring

There is no “one size fits all” for learning. An unfortunate consequence in classroom teaching environments is that the instructor’s teaching style usually is not compatible with every student in the class. I think tutoring ought to bridge these gaps between different learning and teaching styles — it should reinterpret, contextualise, and reinforce ideas that didn’t quite stick in the classroom.

After working with students from elementary school up to college over the course of nearly a decade, I’ve learned to apply this philosophy as a tutor by tailoring my one-on-one teaching style to best suit each student’s individual needs and learning styles. I also try to supply plenty of additional materials for self-study.

I admit I have my limits too, and sometimes things don’t click with a student. If you’re a new student and our first lesson doesn’t go the way you had in mind, I would be more than happy to give a full refund.

Please email me at hunterliu[at]math[dot]ucla[dot]edu with inquiries. I am available for both in-person (near UCLA/Westwood) and online tutoring.

You can find a list of subjects I am willing to tutor below (with some UCLA course numbers for math); the list is not comprehensive, so please don’t hesitate to reach out if there is another subject or class you would like tutoring in.
