About me
My name is Hunter Liu, and I hope you’ve been able to infer that from the site name. I’m currently a prospective graduate student in math. My mathematical interests are still very broad, mostly because I don’t know enough about most topics in math to actually figure out what I like and what I don’t like. I think I want to study algebraic geometry or algebraic topology. We’ll find out eventually.
Besides math (which I thankfully enjoy), I also like programming, music, movies (or film if you’re a snob), and the internet in general. To that end, this site aims to host the following:
- Mathematical writings, such as…
- Personal notes on different topics that I’m familiar with
- Reports, presentations, and publications (of which I have none)
- Interesting problems and puzzles
- A slow translation of my grandfather’s memoir
- My programming projects, at least those that I’m proud enough to share
- Things that I find fun and worth sharing with others, like…
- Cool music, together with things that I myself find interesting
- Must-watch movies, for whatever reason I see fit
- “Important Websites”
- Miscellaneous thoughts and ramblings
As of right now, my long-term goal is to end up in academia, ideally as a professor of mathematics. I enjoy teaching a lot — I’ve been tutoring for the better part of the past half decade (wow I feel old…), and I even wanted to pursue a career in teaching specifically when I was younger. However, I strongly despise the US education system, and a big reason is how they teach math. I have a lot of thoughts about this, and maybe I’ll write a proper post about it later. That’s not to say that college education is free of its issues, but it’s where I found my passion for mathematics, and I want to be able to bring that to others.
